As part of CHU’s bilingual programme, supported by ETI, we are proud to lead a broad range of national and international initiatives aligned with Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 policy. Our work supports the development of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) through a holistic approach that places equal value on language, pedagogy, and subject expertise.
A major focus of our work is lecturer training. We help university educators across Taiwan gain the skills and qualifications needed to deliver academic content confidently in English, and we support their progression toward becoming internationally recognised EMI lecturers. Beyond this, we train a select group of lecturers to become Master Trainers, equipping them with the tools to mentor and train their peers. This model ensures sustainable growth and contributes directly to the long-term goals of Taiwan’s bilingual education strategy.
Other key initiatives include hosting EMI conferences, building international teaching and training partnerships, and supporting EMI implementation at the primary and secondary levels through targeted teacher development. We are also proud to promote the Trinity College London CertPT as a benchmark qualification for quality teaching in EMI contexts, from elementary school to university.
To build a shared professional culture, we have created a community of practice focused on lecturer training standards, quality assurance, developmental observations, and ongoing pedagogical improvement. Our approach is grounded in 21st century pedagogy, encouraging teachers to raise cognitive challenge and classroom interaction to better engage students in bilingual settings.
We also offer direct support to students through English courses, individual consultations, social activities, and academic competitions designed to foster confidence, collaboration, and bilingual fluency.
CHU and ETI are proud to work with lecturers and institutions across the Taiwanese university sector. Contact us if your university would like to collaborate or receive support in setting up bilingual education programmes, EMI initiatives, or academic English training.
