Lecturer Support

Introduction to the Academic English Programme

As part of our commitment to supporting Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 initiative, CHU and ETI are proud to offer an Academic English Programme designed specifically for university lecturers. This programme plays a key role in helping educators develop the language and communication skills they need to teach their subject content confidently in English.

The programme has two main aims:

  • To prepare lecturers to teach their academic content in English effectively and clearly.
  • To support them in becoming more comfortable communicating with both local and international students in English, inside and outside the classroom.

Taiwan’s bilingual policy reflects a global movement toward bilingual and international education. Around the world, universities are investing in English Medium Instruction (EMI) as a way to increase access, diversity, and cross-border collaboration. In this context, bilingualism is not just a language skill; it offers professional, academic, and economic advantages over the long term.

CHU and ETI believe in promoting EMI through a holistic approach. This means we focus not only on English for classroom delivery, but also on helping lecturers develop the academic, intercultural, and communicative competence needed to thrive in bilingual settings. By combining language development with practical teaching support, our Academic English Programme helps lecturers at CHU and across the Taiwanese university sector meet the real challenges of EMI teaching while staying grounded in their subject expertise.
